Opened on 17 December 1922 by Vienna's mayor Jakob Reumann, Feuerhalle Simmering was the first crematorium in Austria. It also constituted an element of the social and health services policy of Red Vienna.
The Friedhof Feuerhalle-Simmering is located across the street (Simmeringer Hauptstrasse) from the Wien Zentralfriedhof, on Franz-Peska-Gasse. It is a crematorium as well as a cemetery and it was the first Austrian crematorium when it opened on December 17, 1922.
