Pacific Highway
- The Pacific Highway ran from British Columbia to San Diego and is the immediate predecessor of much of U.S. Highway 99.

The Ridge Route. Prior to 1915 all traffic that wanted to go from Los Angeles to points north were compelled to either go by way of what is now current US 101 along the coast or by a circuitous route by way of Mojave and Bakersfield over what is now SR-14 and SR-58.

It was assigned in 1926 and existed until it was replaced for the most part by Interstate 5.
In September 1993, California designated US 99 as a Historic Route, under Assembly Concurrent Resolution 19, drafted by Doug Pruitt of Cottonwood, CA and sponsored by Assemblyman Stan Statham (1st Assembly District). This legislation made signage along the remaining portions of the roadway possible.
US Route 99 was one of the original US Routes created in 1926 alongside the US Route System. At its peak US Route 99 was approximately 1,600 miles spanning from Mexican Broder in Calexico, California north to the Canadian Border at Blaine, Washington.
It was the first inland route between the U.S. - Mexico border at Calexico, and Vancouver, Canada. Commissioned in 1926, the highway has been renamed in most places such as Burbank, where you'll see road markers commemorating it in the downtown shopping district (shown in photo.)
