Near Hood River, Oregon, United States. The west Gorge hike to the Angel's Rest viewpoint promises to be a workout with a big reward. The 8-mile trek to the viewpoint starts at about river level and quickly climbs through trees and then over boulders before rising to a bluff above the river. From the top, you'll get a spectacular 270-degree view of the Gorge that includes Beacon Rock, Silver Star Mountain and other landmarks.
First time hiking Angels Rest Trail My husband and I are not hikers, but we do enjoy the occasional hike and checking out the scenery. We chose Angels Rest because it was considered "moderate", had a waterfall, and of course the beautiful lookout at the gorge.

Angels Rest is an exposed bluff on the western end of the Columbia River Gorge. The platy andesite that composes this promontory is part of a million-year-old lava flow from Larch Mountain, a member of the Boring Lava Field. The summit is characterized by a long, rocky spine surrounded on three sides by cliffs, boasting a striking 270 degree view! While you can't see any of the Cascade volcanoes from the top, you do get great vantages of Beacon Rock, Silver Star Mountain and many other landmarks. The real draw, however, is the perspective of the Columbia River below - like you're on a balcony over a great auditorium. Its 1500 foot prominence and its proximity to the Columbia River give you the false sensation that you could dive from Angels Restto the water below! Angels Rest is a large boulder that overlooks the New River at the crest of Pearis Mountain, and the Wilburn Valley Overlook has a wide viewpoint of the surrounding valley. To get to this hike, from US-460 near Pearisburg, take the exit for VA-100S, turn right onto Johnston Avenue, and immediately right again onto Morris Avenue (SR 793).
Hike a short, moderately steep trail to Angel's Rest, an exposed bluff with stunning views into the Columbia River Gorge. You'll be able to see the river glittering below your feet at the overlook, which seems close enough for a quick dip, but be careful, it's a long fall from the balcony.

Nov 18, 2020 · Just east of the boulders, the old course of the Primrose Path descends steeply to the Angels Rest Trail just east of the Mist Creek Footbridge. To complete the loop, however, you'll be continuing on the trail that leads down from the junction below Devils Rest .
