Aug 1, 2022 · Both the older ‘Fantasy Island’ series and the reimagined 2020 film are set on the mysterious “Fantasy Island” somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Not much is known about the island other than the name of its sole proprietor – an enigmatic man named Mr. Roarke.
Fantasy Island was filmed in Taveuni, a wondrous filming location consisting of a small lush island situated in the Northern part of Fiji. The original series opening scene was shot in the awesome Na Pali coast in Kauai (Hawaii), with most of the studio work filmed in Burbank, California.

- Fantasy Island started as a joke. The premise of Fantasy Island is clear, intriguing, and almost infinitely repeatable: People pay $50,000 for a three-day stay on an island where their wildest fantasy comes true.
- Fantasy Island was a series of movies before it was a show. Made-for-television movies were a huge part of the business of the big three American broadcast networks in the 1970s.
- ABC had some interesting casting ideas. Higher-ups at ABC didn't just have a problem with including Hervé Villechaize in the cast of Fantasy Island. Executives had issues with producer Aaron Spelling's choice of actor in the show's only other continuing role, that of mysterious island proprietor Mr. Roarke.
- ABC wanted a Tattoo removed. Initially, Fantasy Island's regular cast consisted of just two people who appeared in every episode: Ricardo Montalbán as twisted paradise operator Mr. Roarke, and French actor Hervé Villechaize as Mr. Roarke's assistant and constant companion, Tattoo.

- IT FEATURED DOZENS OF CELEBRITY GUEST STARS. Fantasy Island became known for its slew of famous guest stars over the years, with a cavalcade of celebrities from the '70s and '80s showing up to play the guests that came to the island.
- IT BEGAN WITH TWO FILMS. Prior to the show being picked up for distribution, it began with two made-for-TV films to introduce audiences to the concept of the show.
- ALL THE GUESTS WERE INCREDIBLY WEALTHY. In the first made-for-TV film (which was actually a pilot for the series), it was revealed to viewers that all the guests paid $50,000 for a stay on Fantasy Island.
- EACH FANTASY WAS VERY PERSONAL. Every guest that arrived on Fantasy Island had a fantasy that was very personal to them. One guest might want to be reunited with a departed loved one, while another guest might want to "die a hero's death".
Airing from 1978 to 1984, the original series starred Ricardo Montalbán as Mr. Roarke, the enigmatic overseer of a mysterious island somewhere near Devil's Island, French Guiana in the Atlantic Ocean, where people from all walks of life could come and live out their fantasies, albeit for a price.

Churchward claimed that the landmass of Mu was located in the Pacific Ocean, and stretched east–west from the Marianas to Easter Island, and north–south from Hawaii to Mangaia. According to Churchward the continent was supposedly 5,000 miles from east to west and over 3,000 miles from north to south, which is larger than South America.
