The Argo Dam is located in north-central Ann Arbor about 0.75 miles (1.21 km) south of M-14 (Bus. US 23). The dam is accessible just south of the highway via exit 3 (North Main Street). The Argo Dam is approximately 50.5 miles (81.3 km) from the Huron River mouth at Lake Erie.
Restrooms, shelter, public boat launch, fishing pier and the Argo dam are all near the Argo Livery. The Argo Cascades, a series of nine small rapids, rock chutes and pools serving as a bypass channel to connect Argo Pond to the Huron River are a popular attraction.
The Argo Dam sits in the Huron River at the upriver end of Ann Arbor, creating the 92-acre Argo Pond behind it. Argo Park is on the east end of the 200-foot-long, 18-foot-high dam; north Main Street on the west. Downstream from the dam site is the Argo Cascades water park.
The Argo Canoe Livery is a busy spot drawing crowds looking to rent canoes, kayaks, and rafts to paddle down the Huron River from May-October. Restrooms, shelter, public boat launch, fishing pier and the Argo dam are all near the Argo Livery.
Dec 21, 2009 · The Ann Arbor City Council just received 61 pages of new scientific data on Argo Dam that could help the city in its fight against the state of Michigan. The findings of a much anticipated report on the stability of Argo Dam's headrace embankment were released late last week to council members.
All three are available at Argo. Canoeing or kayaking in the backwater or portage around the dam and paddle down to Gallup. Kayaks and tubes can take the "Cascades" which is fun and very cool. These are man made rapids around the dam but canoes have to portage around.
