Of the many fine talents in the Warner Bros. "stock company," the three leads in "Pride of the Marines" may be considered the "cream of the crop." John Garfield, Eleanor Parker and Dane Clark really never gave a bad performance. Each seemingly could take on any role and make it his/her own.

A really underrated entry in the sub-genre of post-war films chronicling the experiences of soldiers returning to the homefront. Based on a true story, Pride of the Marines looks at the story of Al Schmid (John Garfield) a hero at Guadalcanal who is blinded by a grenade. Garfield is absolutely fantastic and Eleanor Parker is a wonderful foil.
