   • Their roots stretched back to Downey and Lynott’s time at the Christian Brothers school in Crumlin, Dublin, in the 1960s. “He was the only black guy in the whole school,” Downey says. “So he kind of stood out. You knew who he was.” The pair were in bands, then in bands together, one of them finally becoming Thin Lizzy.

   • Thin Lizzy toured the US in support of various bands such as Aerosmith, Rush and REO Speedwagon, and they planned to tour there again in June 1976, this time with Rainbow. However, Lynott fell ill with hepatitis and the tour was cancelled, which set them back a few months.
