Connersville, city, seat (1819) of Fayette county, east-central Indiana, U.S., on the Whitewater River, 57 miles (92 km) east of Indianapolis. A fur-trading post was established on the site in 1808 by John Conner, who later worked as a guide and interpreter for General William Henry Harrison, governor of Indiana Territory and later U.S. president.

Our History Home Our History The Story Begins Native American tribes originally inhabited the Whitewater Valley. In about 1805, settlers began to come to what is now Fayette County. The county was formed in 1819 alongside the establishment of the county government. Connersville was platted in 1813 by a trader, explorer, and statesman John Conner.
Manufacturing History of Connersville. Founded and platted in 1813 by wilderness explorer John Conner, Connersville in it's early days served as a fort and safe haven for European travelers heading west into the wild unknown. John Conner, founder and namesake of Connersville served as the first sheriff and surveyor for the young Hoosier community.
