Outside of the prison’s walls, Angela became an international symbol of resistance. Activists adopted the rallying cry of “Free Angela.” They argued that Angela was a political prisoner and unfairly targeted because of her political beliefs and activist work.

Diego Rivera was born in 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico. A naturally gifted artist, he began his formal art training at a young age, but it wasn’t until he went to Europe in 1907 that his talent truly began to blossom.
