Yes, Rotten Tomatoes is good. Yes, the scores are reliable. Rotten Tomatoes is useful and trustworthy. My experience has been that people that feel otherwise haven't bothered to read the instructions on Rotten Tomatoes and are assigning an inappropriate purpose to the scores.

The Rotten Tomatoes score is very useful for what it is. It tells you how most critics tend to be thinking about a movie, and roughly how likely you probably are to enjoy it. If you're going out to the movies and don't know what to see, maybe you'll check out the movie with 95% over the movie with 25%.
