  3. TNG is not known for story arcs like the later TV series. I do suggest you finnish out the series before watching the TNG based movies though. If anything, TNG really starts to get into its prime around the 4th season. It's well worth continuing from this point if you made it this far.

The script writers, and probably Frakes who directed it, wasted no time with getting the movie moving at speed to the real meat of the story.
