- Carnal Forge. Veterans of Sweden’s highly-populated melodic death metal scene, Carnal Forge have the dark spirit of thrash pulsing through their veins. After several albums of heads-down, no-nonsense speed worship, they’ve diversified somewhat in recent times, but if you want music that promises to kick your face off, few do it better.
- Blood Tsunami. Powered ferociously along by former Emperor drummer and notorious ex-jailbird Faust, these Norwegian miscreants are so in love with thrash that they named their debut album after it.
- Bolt Thrower. The Coventry crew released eight studio albums over the course of their thirty year career. Steadfastly influenced by thrash and punk, their energetic breed of death metal made a huge impact on the metal scene right up until they called it quits in 2016, following the death of their drummer Martin Kearns.
- Death Angel. Once regarded as the most likely band to succeed The Big Four, Death Angel’s time for greatness might have gone. But, after a decade away, they re-formed in 2001, and have been busy since.
- Black Knight. Few people are familiar with the Canadian heavy/power metal band Black Knight. They released a demo and an EP in 1984 and 1985, making them one of the best female-fronted bands in my opinion.
- Crystal Pride. Another female-fronted heavy metal band hailing from Sweden, Crystal Pride, released 1 EP, 2 demos, 1 single, 1 split, and 1 album from 1982 to 1995.
- Détente. Détente, a band that can enchant thrash/speed metal enthusiasts, produced several demos, but their 1986 album “Recognize No Authority” truly deserves recognition.
- Ender. I don’t know how I ended up with four female-fronted bands in a row (it was not intentional), but has any other band left such a lasting impression with just one demo?
Underrated Thrash Metal Bands. Metal bands that never got the attention that they should have. I know they all can’t be Metallica but lets show some love to some of these underrated bands. These are just my personal favs.

- Slaughter - Strappado. Not to be confused with the American pop-metal band that haunted MTV in the early Nineties, the Canadian Slaughter cranked up the extremity and violence of Slayer to death-metal levels of aggression.
- Dark Angel - Leave Scars. When Dark Angel dropped their third album in early '89, it marked a new era for the L.A.- area thrashers. Leave Scars was the band's first outing with vocalist Ron Rinehart and bassist Mike Gonzalez, not to mention their last with founding guitarist Jim Durkin.
- Whiplash - Power and Pain. In their Eighties heyday, New Jersey thrash trio Whiplash consisted of three Tonys: guitarist-vocalist Tony Portaro, drummer Tony Scaglione and bassist Tony Bono.
- Deathwish - Demon Preacher. While many prominent U.K. thrash bands trafficked in humor — see Acid Reign, Lawnmower Deth, etc. — Deathwish were dead serious.
Hands down, the most underrated thrash band of all time is Forbidden. They have 3 amazing albums. Forbidden Evil (Debut) Twisted into Form (Absolute Masterpiece) Omega Wave (Modern but amazing)
