The administrative building constructed by Helmut Hentrich and Hubert Petschnigg for Phönix-Rheinrohr AG (Thyssen from 1964) is regarded as one of the icons of German post-war architecture. This was the first steel skeleton construction of its kind in Europe. More than half a century later we successfully revitalised the Dreischeibenhaus.
He commissioned the architects Helmut Hentrich and Hubert Petschnigg to design and build an office and shopping complex modelled on American malls. Construction work began in 1963, with artistic consulting by the church architect Egon Eiermann, and on 2 April 1965 the Europa-Center was inaugurated by Governing Mayor Willy Brandt .

Hubert Petschnigg began in 1963. The team of architects received artistic advice from Professor Egon Eiermann, who had also completed the construction of the new Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in 1961.
