Hurricane Wilma displayed the smallest eye on record when it reached peak intensity on 19 October: a diameter of only 3.2 km (2 mi). This tiny eye was replaced with a much larger eye, 64-97 km (40-60 mi) in diameter after the storm weakened to a Category 4 hurricane and underwent an eyewall replacement cycle on 20 October and the large eye was preserved for the rest of the storm’s existence.
