Facts. Common juniper, including its varieties, has the most extensive worldwide native range of any conifer. Although it attains the stature of a small tree elsewhere in the world, it usually takes the form of a low- spreading shrub in New England.
A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various species of junipers. It is not a true berry but a cone with unusually fleshy and merged scales called a galbulus, which gives it a berry-like appearance.
