Midland Charter Township is a charter township of Midland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,287 at the 2010 census, making it the least-populated charter township in the state. The township consists of three non-contiguous segments adjacent to the city of Midland, and the township and city are administered autonomously.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 8.3 square miles, of which 7.8 square miles is land and 0.5 square miles is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,297 people, 847 households, and 651 families residing in the township. The population density was 295.3 per square mile. There were 876 housing units at an average density of 112.6 per square mile. The racial makeup of the township was 98.43% White, 0.39% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.17% Asian, and 0.65% from two or more races. The Tridge is the formal name of a three-way wooden footbridge spanning the confluence of the Chippewa and Tittabawassee Rivers in Chippewassee Park near downtown Midland, Michigan, in the Tri-Cities region. Named as a portmanteau of "tri" and "bridge", the structure opened in 1981. It consists of one 31-foot tall central pillar supporting three spokes. Each spoke is 180 feet long by 8 feet wide.
The bridge was constructed in 1981 at the instigation of the Midland Area Community Foundation. The bridge cost $732,000 to build, and took 6,400 hours of labor. Ten railroad car loads of prefabricated wood, and 337 cubic yards of concrete were used to construct three arches, which weigh 44,000 pounds apiece. Each appendage is 180 by 8 feet.
