  1. Alloherpesviridae. Genus: Batravirus. Species: Batravirus ranidallo3. Synonyms. Ranid herpesvirus 3. RaHV-3. Batravirus ranidallo3, also known as Ranid herpesvirus 3 (RaHV-3) is a species of virus in the genus Batrachovirus, family Alloherpesviridae, and order Herpesvirales.

  2. Batravirus ranidallo1, also known as Ranid herpesvirus 1 (RaHV-1), is a double-stranded DNA virus within the order Herpesvirales. The virus was initially observed within renal tumors in 1934 by Baldwin Lucké, and more recently has become identifiable through the use of PCR in samples isolated from frog tumors.

Viruses in Alloherpesviridaeare enveloped, with icosahedral and spherical to pleomorphic geometries, and T=16 symmetry. The diameter is around 150–200 nm. Genomes are linear and non-segmented, around 134-248kb in length.

Viral replication is nuclear, and is lysogenic. Entry into the host cell is achieved by attachment of the viral glycoproteins to host receptors, which mediates endocytosis. DNA-templated transcription is the method of transcription. Fish serve as the natural host. Transmission routes are passive diffusion.

Several genomes have been sequenced. Cyprinid herpesviruses 1, 2 and 3 (CyHV1, CyHV2 and CyHV3) cause disease in common carp, goldfish and koi. Their genomes are 291144, 290304 and 295146 base pairs in size. The overall organisation common to all three and consists of a unique central region flanked by a direct repeat at each end. 137, 150, and 155...

Varicella zoster virus ( VZV ), also known as human herpesvirus 3 ( HHV-3, HHV3) or Human alphaherpesvirus 3 ( taxonomically ), is one of nine known herpes viruses that can infect humans. It causes chickenpox (varicella) commonly affecting children and young adults, and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults but rarely in ...

We detected RaHV3 DNA in free-ranging common frog (Rana temporaria) tadpoles, consistent with premetamorphic infection. Our finding reveals a critical aspect of RaHV3 pathogenesis, relevant for amphibia ….
