It’s a beautiful area, featuring a stunning landscape of sparkling blue, warm bay waters with clean, well-manicured public beaches hugging the Lake Huron shoreline.
Tawas City was founded in 1854 as the first city to be located on the shores of Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron north of Bay City. Tawas City was established as the county seat of Iosco County, and the first post office was established January 6, 1856, with James O. Whittemore appointed postmaster.

Mar 16, 2022 · Tawas City. The town of Tawas City is pretty adorable. It’s got a little downtown strip with an ice cream shop, Ben Franklin store, movie theater, fudge shop, and more. Every Labor Day, they have a festival right by the water.
