Jul 6, 2023 · A superb engine, the M43 ran until mid-1998 when it was revised again for the new E46 3 Series. The new M43TU engine was a 1.9-liter thanks to a bigger 85 mm bore and stroke of 83.5 mm.
The BMW M43B16 engine produced 102.0 PS (75 kW; 100.6 HP) at 5,500 rpm of maximum output power and 150 N·m (15.3 kg·m, 110.6 ft·lb) at 3,900 rpm of peak torque. There was also a natural gas-powered (Compressed natural gas, CNG) version for the BMW 316g Compact.

A variable-length DISA intake manifold has also been adopted, which allows for more torque at both low and high revs. The ignition system has also been changed. The engine was installed on: BMW E36 318i in 1992 – 1998; BMW E34 518i in 1994 – 1996; BMW E36 Z3 in 1995 – 2001.
