What guitars did Prince use? Prince's most famous guitar is the Hohner HG-490 (commonly referred to as the "Mad Cat"), a Tele-style guitar with a natural finish. Prince acquired this guitar in 1980 and became his preferred guitar in the studio. It was also used on many of his concert tours.
The Model C is very unique electric guitar used by Prince in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was built by famed German luthier Jerry Auerswald, who also built the Symbol guitar and Cleo bass. It has a bar connecting the body to the headstock, called a “sustain bow” – like the Roland G-707, also used by Prince.
