American culture is particularly restrictive in its attitudes about sex when it comes to women and sexuality. It is widely believed that men are more sexual than women, and the belief that men have—or have the right to—more sexual urges than women creates a double standard.

This truth is of the profoundest significance for a biblical theology of sexuality and marriage. God’s creation of human beings in his image as male and female was designed to point toward the ultimate purpose for human beings in communion with God in Christ. Thus sexuality was designed all along to reflect this communion.
