It is in Hot Springs, NC just outside of Asheville. Even with 3,820 square miles of inland water, the third-largest supply in the United States, there is only this hot spring. Hot Springs, a Healing Center. Hot Springs, North Carolina, has a rich history as a center for healing and retreat. Traders from the colonies were the first to visit the springs and, by 1778, the lame and the sick were traveling over the mountains for the healing waters.
Hot Springs is located at the confluence of the French Broad River and Spring Creek. A natural hot spring is also located here, the only such spring known in North Carolina and in much of the southeastern United States.
