    Nichols Arboretum is a very lovely park right next to the U of M medical campus. Parking may be potentially a little tricky, but we were here on a weekend so there were a few more options. The great thing is that admission is free! This would be a great place for families, dog-walkers, or really anyone who loves spending a little time in nature.

The trails pass by or through important areas of the Arboretum such as the peony garden, Heathdale, Alex Dow Field, along the Huron River, the main valley, and others.

    Members of Matthaei-Nichols park for free at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. All others pay the $1.80 per hour fee. There is no free parking near the Arboretum; all visitors who drive to the Arb must pay meters or a parking attendant at the hospital structures, or they already have a blue university parking pass.
