Hitchcock with the principal cast. Many of the French actors were cast in mid-May when Hitchcock arrived in Paris, en route to the French Riviera. Hitchcock had spotted actress Brigitte Auber in Julien Duvivier’s Sous le ciel de Paris (1951) and felt her athletic physique would be ideal for Danielle Foussard.
