The Hammersmith Apollo, currently called the Eventim Apollo[1] for sponsorship reasons, and formerly known as the Hammersmith Odeon, is a live entertainment performance venue, originally built as a cinema called the Gaumont Palace. Located in Hammersmith, London, it is an art deco Grade II* listed building. [2]
The Hammersmith building was originally planned to also be named Davis Theatre, but it opened as the Gaumont Palace on 28th March 1932 with 3,560-seats. The opening programme was Tom Walls in “A Night Like This” and Helen Twelvetrees in “Bad Company”. On the stage was “Our Easter Egg”-a ‘Grand Stage Spectacle’ with 80 performers.

From 1962 the venue was named the Hammersmith Odeon and played host to many legendary acts of the day, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Marley. It screened its last regular film on 8th August 1984, “Blue Thunder” starring Roy Scheider. In 1992 the theatre was closed for refurbishment and reopened as the Labatt’s Apollo.
