Transgender is an adjective; hence one says "Smith is a transgender woman" (or simply "a trans woman"). The use of it as a noun (as in "Smith is a transgender", "the film features two transgenders") is often considered offensive, is deprecated by several style guides and dictionaries, and should be avoided.

    Creating articles

At WP:Requested articles, people can suggest topics for new articles. Creating an article will require research to determine if there is significant coverage in reliable sources. See WP:Notability, including the general notability guideline, for more information. 1. Requested articles on LGBT topics 2. Requested articles on LGBT people 3. Another source for potential new articles is LGBT studies redlink lists, which contains lists of topics from Wikidatathat do not have articles on Wikipedia.

    Project-tagging

Newly created articles that deal with LGBT topics should have the WP:LGBT project banneradded to the talk page. 1. If you are unsure whether an article should added to the project, raise it for discussion at WT:LGBT. WikiProjects define their own scopes (WP:PROJSCOPE), so whether a project should be added or not is based on the consensus of active members rather than any detailed criteria. 2. New articles containing LGBT keywordsis an automatically generated report that displays recently crea...

    Improving navigation

There are several ways to make it easier for readers to find new articles. 1. New articles should be placed in appropriate LGBT categories, to group related topics together. See WP:CAT for more. WP:BLPCAT and WP:EGRSprovide important guidance on categorizing articles about people. 2. Navigational templatesfor LGBT topics can be added to articles, creating links between all articles with the template. 3. New and expanded articles can be submitted to WP:Did you know, and if selected will be fea...

Assessing article quality helps WP:LGBT members to recognize excellent contributions and identify topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process. 1. When the {{LGBTProject}} banner is added to an article without an assessment parameter specified, the article will be placed in Category:Unassessed LGBT articles. 2. Once an editor has assessed the article and completed the assessment parameter, the article will be added to the appropriate sub-category of Category:LGBT articles by quality. These categories are used to generate reports like the quality table in this section. 3. The LGBT articles by quality loglists articles that have been assessed, reassessed, moved, or removed from the project's scope in the past week.

There are several ways to find articles for improvement. 1. WP:LGBT/Corelists articles that are of fundamental importance to WP:LGBT's mandate. 2. WP:LGBT/Vital lists in-scope articles that have been identified as among the most important on Wikipedia. See WP:VAfor more information. 3. WP:LGBT/Popularlists the 500 highest traffic articles within WP:LGBT. 4. Use the quality table to pick an article from one class and work to get it to a higher class. 5. Review former featured articles and former good articlesthat have been demoted, and work to restore their status. The LGBT WikiProject peer reviewsarticles on request. This is to encourage better articles by having other contributors provide ideas for improvement. The process is highly flexible and can deal with articles of any quality. This process is not an academic peer review by a group of experts in a particular subject, and articles that undergo this process should not be assumed to have greater authority than any other.

You can help maintain the quality of LGBT content on Wikipedia by reviewing recent edits and joining active discussions. 1. WP:LGBT/Alertsreports on featured articles, proposed deletions and moves, and requests for comment on articles in WP:LGBT. 2. WP:LGBT/Watchlist identifies articles that may attract controversy or vandalism. Anyone who comes across contentious or frequently vandalised article is welcome to add to it. Review recent changes to WP:LGBT Watchlist articles. 3. See current talk page discussionsfor all articles in WP:LGBT. 4. Particpate in deletion discussions for sexuality and gender articles nominated for deletion.
