  3. May 9, 2019 · Shilling is having someone (or you) bidding with zero intention of paying if you win. Giving people an incentive to bid on your auctions, knowing you will have to follow through and pay if you win, does not seem like shilling to me. Just seems like a way to get more people interested in your auctions.

  4. With the recent treads about shill bidding, I would appreciate someone explaining how they recognize shill bidding. I do know why they do it, but what do you look for when trying to decide if there is shill bidding going on? For example, is it a number of bids placed by one person one someone's auctions? Is it because they are "new" to eBay?

  5. May 10, 2019 · The auctioneer would have to pay the shill to attend the auction and bid. The auctioneers have more efficient ways to raise the bid. They can take bids from the back of the room, take bids from pre-bids, take bids from the telephone, or sell to the book after the item closes.
