Destinations. Ohio. United States. Delaware, located just outside of Columbus, Ohio, is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. The growth has brought in some spectacular eateries and kitschy shops, creating one of central Ohio’s most lively historic downtown destinations.
History of Delaware. Long before the City of Delaware came into existence, Mingo, and Shawnee Indian tribes lived in the area and settlements were established where the future town would develop. In 1804, Moses Byxbe arrived in central Ohio from Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
Population. Based on the 2020 US Census, the number of residents was 41,320 (over 18% growth since 2010), but based on City building activity, the population is even greater, nearing 44,000. Between 2000 and 2010, the City of Delaware's population expanded by nearly 10,000, or almost 38 percent.
