Robert Earl Wise (September 10, 1914 – September 14, 2005) was an American filmmaker. He won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture for his musical films West Side Story (1961) and The Sound of Music (1965).
Robert Wise was a versatile and acclaimed filmmaker who directed, produced, edited and wrote many classic movies, such as West Side Story, The Sound of Music and The Andromeda Strain. He won four Oscars and was nominated for 26 more, and also worked with Orson Welles on Citizen Kane (1941).
