Pressman overrules Picard's order for an away team and beams just himself and Riker over. In engineering, Pressman finds the experiment, fully intact.

I re-watched the series withi my daughter last year and even seeing it 20 some-odd years later it's just as powerful. And the scene where the Enterprise de-phases outside the asteroid is priceless.
