Like others have said, a lot of it depends on the fandom. In the small but poignant Person of Interest fandom, the main f/f pair outranks in sheer number of works the main m/m pair ***, even though the other half of f/f pairing wasn't introduced until S2.***. Without fandom activity being an issue, AO3's main draws for me would be 1) formatting options, and 2) comment threads. Co-authoring is also a potential draw if that's something you've considered doing.
