     Custom data attributes are intended to store custom data private to the page or application, for which there are no more appropriate attributes or elements.

     It should be used when there aren't other elements or attributes that are designed to store specific data. It is not intended to be seen by the end user. But rather allow for a richer application.

     The same link (above) gives a good example:

     <audio controls="controls"> <source src="track1.mp3" type="audio/mpeg" data-duration="1min5secs" data-tempo="125bpm" data-artist="The Beatles" /></audio>-

     You now have this data accessible to the application without needing to make an additional call to the server.

     And for certain frameworks that allow for custom attributes (Looking at you Angular.js), prefixing all of the attributes with data- allows for code to validate, as I believe the browser ignores these attributes.

     JSX can be thought of as syntactical sugar for writing react components. There is usually a transpiler at work working to turn the JSX into valid JavaScript. This valid JavaScript and other assets is then bundled. But what use is this without any html to use it? The bundle is injected into the index.html. If you open it there should be a comment giving a brief explanation about it.

     The traditional, hacky way to create a dialog, via designing a div via CSS only seems to be intuitive for you because you are used to it. However, you need to implement every functionality related to it, such as:

     • opening it
     • closing it

     Also, in the future, this will be enhanced by standard functionalities, so, while it's not urgent for already existent code, but when you write code, especially when you start a project, it makes sense to start using it. Let's see an example from [Mozilla's page][1]:

     Declaring language in HTML

     Always use a language attribute on the html tag to declare the default language of the text in the page. When the page contains content in another language, add a language attribute to an element surrounding that content.

     Use the lang attribute for pages served as HTML, and the xml:lang attribute for pages served as XML. For XHTML 1.x and HTML5 polyglot documents, use both together.

     Use language tags from the IANA Language Subtag Registry.
