Feb 7, 2006 · In 1969 the band permanently changed their name to the Five Man Electrical Band, consisting of guitarists Vern Craig and Les Emmerson, keyboard player Ted Gerow, bass guitarist Brian Rading, and brothers Michael Bell (b Belanger) on drums and Rick Bell (guitarist).

Along with Belanger’s fellow-drumming brother Mike, Brian Rading on bass and Ted Gerow on keyboards, they got back in the groove on the Ottawa circuit and decided to give it another go in LA.

The Canadian group from Ottawa, Ontario, was originally formed as the Staccatos in 1963. Within a year, Emmerson replaced their original lead singer. They soon earned several Top 20 singles in Canada. However, the songs failed to chart in the U.S. A change was needed.
