John Conti, a stellar defenseman on the lacrosse team, was twice recognized as an All-American and a three- time All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) choice. A member of two MAC Championship winning teams, Conti was an integral part of one of F&M's most successful periods of men's lacrosse.

Conti was the captain of the 1949 squad that won U-D’s first Missouri Valley Conference championship. He was named a United Press Honorable Mention All-American in 1948. At 6’1 and 300 pounds, he played both offense and defense and was also the biggest man in college football.
