Based more-than-loosely on backstage shenanigans at "Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock" centers on young Liz Lemon, currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York.

- “Operation Righteous Cowboy Lightning” (Season 5, Episode 12) This episode is “30 Rock” at its purest level of workplace comedy, putting Liz (Fey) and Jack (Alec Baldwin) in competing plots.
- "Floyd" (Season 4, Episode 16) As Floyd, Jason Sudeikis’ job was to be the perfect boyfriend who got away, Liz’s forever “what if?” In this episode, though, he gets to let loose when Liz finds out he’s engaged and accidentally gets him drunk off a salmon dish’s particularly potent bourbon sauce.
- “The Tuxedo Begins” (Season 6, Episode 8) Every so often, “30 Rock” would dive headlong into New York City mythology to uniquely ridiculous effect. Such is the case with “The Tuxedo Begins,” a deranged homage to the “Batman” movies that sees an ill Liz spiraling into hermitdom while Jack despairs at the city’s hostility towards the wealthy.
- “Mamma Mia” (Season 3, Episode 21) Jack deciding to find out who his father is could have been a storyline that didn’t deliver on the years of buildup. But in casting Alan Alda as Jack’s hippie professor dad Milton Greene, “30 Rock” ensured the arc’s success.

Although not succumbing to a failing score, the fourth season of 30 Rock is unanimously ranked last of its seven. Season 4 certainly tossed its characters through lackluster TV tropes: Liz being uncertain about a new bachelor, and Jack having to choose between two women. The overall plot involving NBC being bought out by Kabletown may have also lef...
Season 6 of 30 Rock was praised for juggling the same hilarious antics that the series had been known for. By this point, 30 Rock was playing the game like a veteran basketball player, albeit still suffering from conventional writing choices. Jack spent a better arc of the season attempting to rescue his wife from North Korea, while Liz and Jenna w...
The breakout season that led to a sitcom behemoth, Season 1 of 30 Rock was instantly hailed as a zany, hilarious introduction to the working world of Liz Lemon. Based on Tina Fey's years as head writer of SNL, 30 Rock revolves around sketch comedy show TGS -- or "The Girlie Show" -- starring the ditzy Jenna Maroney who performs under a spotlight ho...
The fifth season of 30 Rock was a return to form for many critics after the mixed reception of Season 4. Amid celebrating 100 episodes of TGS, much of the characters' personal plot developments took to new mold in Season 5 -- Jack preparing for fatherhood, Tracy chasing an EGOT -- while other characters shared in their own wacky side adventures, su...
Season 3 celebrates 30 Rocksoaring to new comedic heights featuring some of the show's most notably outrageous humor of its entire run. Character arcs include Jack winning his job back after the events of the Season 2 cliffhanger, while Liz dates Dr. Drew Baird, a whimsical Jon Hamm in a notable episode, "The Bubble." Tracy basks in the success of ...
A bittersweet farewell, 30 Rock's final season was praised for maintaining its ability to be uproariously funny and beautifully poignant. Season 7 saw these hilarious characters crystallize once and for all; Liz settling down with children and marriage in her potential future, and Jack solidifying, and potentially sabotaging, his future with the co...
The season that solidified 30 Rockas a monumental sitcom success, Season 2 is about as wacky and inventive as the series ever becomes. With the characters fully realized by the time of their sophomore outing, Fey's writing for untapped potential appears to be limited to no bounds. After returning from a terrible summer hiatus -- from Jenna's obesit...
Jan 31, 2013 · While many shows have been set in a bland facsimile of “New York,” “30 Rock” was obsessive about the actual city, referring to events large and small, including several elections, the financial...

TV Series Review. In one episode of NBC’s inside-baseball sitcom 30 Rock, Jack Donaghy barrels into NBC’s “standards department” and announces that the network can no longer use the words “hit,” “great show,” “fun” or “broadcast television.”
It can be tricky doing a review for a series like "30 Rock" because the quality of the show fluctuates so much between season to season, and even episode to episode. I mainly base my 7/10 on what are the odds you'd pick a funny episode if you put all episodes on shuffle.
