Coles County is a county in Illinois. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,863. [1] Its county seat is Charleston, [2] which is also the home of Eastern Illinois University. Coles County is part of the Charleston–Mattoon, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Coles County Clerk Julie Coe was elected in November 2018 and assumed her duties as Clerk on December 1, 2018. Prior to her election, Julie worked as a Recorder of deeds in the office and also served as Chief Deputy.
The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in Coles County, an area of 510 square miles with a population of 46,863. The Sheriff believes that community input is essential to the operation of the Sheriff's Office.
