Feb 3, 2021 · In Mong Kok, you can find plenty of street-food stalls scattered on Sai Yeung Choi Street, Dundas Street, Fa Yuen Street and Soy Street. They are not limited to selling traditional Hong Kong-style snacks such as stinky tofu, fish balls, and fish siu mai. Nowadays, you will also find pizza, Thai tea, and even poutine, all at very reasonable prices.
- Market hopping. If there is one thing Mongkok champions in Hong Kong, it’s throwing the most unique markets. Boasting more than 100 stalls selling kitschy bargain souvenirs and accessories, the famed Ladies’ Market is a touristy treasure trove—especially if you’re good at bargaining.
- Visit a herbal tea shop in Lui Seng Chun. Former home to Lui Leung, the late businessman and one of the founders of Kowloon Motor Bus Company, and his family, Lui Seng Chun is a Grade I historic building named after a Chinese bone-setting shop on the ground floor.
- Bargain shopping. Mong Kok is a favourite of Hong Kong youth when it comes to shopping. T.O.P. and Langham Place are for higher-end street fashions while Argyle Centre is a shopping mall for cheaper finds.
- Join a free art and culture tour. A community art project launched in 2017, HK Urban Canvas turns shop shutters into colourful street arts. By working with local shop owners, street artists create artworks that capture the essence and story of the shop and its owner.
A fusion of historic and modern high-rises; bright neon signs; countless shops and restaurants and the constant comings and goings of locals and tourists alike make this a very special area of Hong Kong. Mong Kok is one of the liveliest districts in the city and is the ideal place to explore, dine or shop at day or night.
