Alva is a city in and the county seat of Woods County, Oklahoma, United States, along the Salt Fork Arkansas River. The population was 5,028 at the time of the 2020 Census, up from 4,945 at the 2010 census. Northwestern Oklahoma State University is located in Alva.

Alva, the county seat of Woods County, is located in the northeastern quadrant of the county at the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and U.S. Highway 281. It is situated sixty-five miles northeast of Woodward, seventy-two miles northwest of Enid, and 110 miles southwest of Wichita, Kansas.
Alva was established on September 16, 1893, as a Land Office for the Cherokee Strip Land Run. It is home to Northwestern Oklahoma State University and serves as the County Seat for Woods County. Alva sits at the intersection of U.S. Highways 281 and 64, just 17 miles south of the Kansas line.
