The Bamberg County Airport with its 3600' runway is located just a few miles outside the Bamberg city limits and accommodates private and corporate aircraft.

Bamberg county was formed in 1897 and named for a family of early settlers. The town of Bamberg is the county seat. Denmark, the other large town, is the site of Denmark Technical College (founded 1948) and Voorhees College (1897). The county’s farm produce is varied, including livestock, milk, watermelons, grains, and soybeans.

As of 2010, the population of the town of Bamberg is 3,607. Established in Barnwell District (county) as Lowery, the town was granted a U.S. Post Office on August 14, 1850, and its first Postmaster was Mr. Howell Easterlin. On March 1, 1854, the Post Office Department officially changed the name to Bamberg.
May 17, 2016 · The South Carolina General Assembly incorporated the town in 1855 and named it in honor of William Seaborn Bamberg, who had acquired the site in 1846. He and his brothers, Isaac S. Bamberg and General Francis Marion Bamberg, and others settled the area and began creating the town. Bamberg’s first post office opened by 1860.
