The submarine base at Coco Solo was established May 6, 1918. [1] The site corresponds with modern-day Cativá in Panama. It was on the Atlantic Ocean (northwest) side of the Panama Canal Zone, near Colón, Panama. Five C-class submarines were based there during 1914–1919.

The us navy galeta island nsga, used the southern end of coco solo, plus what was known as the Y Barracks, and Officers row (approx 6 homes on the water). Mar 9, 2016 · The U.S base at Coco Solo was founded in 1918 and is perhaps best known for being the birth place of U.S. Senator and Presidential nominee John McCain. By the 1960’s the base was no longer used for Navy vessels but it remained a housing area for civilian employees of the Canal until the 1990’s.
The project area, known as South Coco Solo, was a naval air base the United States during World War II, which subsequently reverted to Panama because of the Torrijos-Carter treaties of 1977. After reversion to Panama, the area was used as a storage and distribution center for Latin America vehicles.
