   Why is it called Carew Tower?

   • The building was named for Joseph T. Carew. Some of you might recognize that name from the old Mabley and Carew department store chain (which originally had a spot here!). The Carew Tower has 23 elevators and stands at 49 stories tall. It was the first office building downtown to have an unmanned elevator operated by push buttons.
