Set in 1930s Kenya, the series stars Trevor Eve as Superintendent Albert Tyburn, a Scotland Yard criminal investigations officer who is sent to work in Nairobi to reveal the underside of the expatriate community in Kenya, exploring murders against issue of race and class, drug use, and sexuality.

Eve won the 1997 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Dr Astrov in Uncle Vanya. He then went on to star in the 1998 Carlton Television/WGBH Boston television series Heat of the Sun, which was filmed in Zimbabwe, and portrayed Edward Murdstone in BBC's 1999 adaptation of David Copperfield.
