Night of the Lepus (also known as Rabbits) is a 1972 American science fiction horror film directed by William F. Claxton and produced by A.C. Lyles. Based upon Russell Braddon's 1964 science fiction novel The Year of the Angry Rabbit, the plot concerns an infestation of mutated rabbits.
Rancher Cole Hillman is fed up of rabbits plaguing his fields. Zoologist Roy Bennett conducts an experiment to curb their population, but it gives rise to giant rabbits that terrorise the town.
Night of the Lepus was horror in name only-it looked, walked, and quacked like an old-school Western. Lyle's screenwriters Gene R. Kearney and Don Holliday threw out everything that made the book witty, clever, original, and entertaining. All that was left was killer rabbits.
- William F. Claxton, Stan Jolley, Ted Schilz
- Stuart Whitman
