When a gang of ruthless claim jumpers brutally murders his miner father, a gunman known as the Silver Kid joins forces with the local marshal to free the tiny town of Silver City from the clutches of the dastardly villains.
The movie opens in downtown Los Angeles, where Mann drives down South Broadway, before heading north on Highway 5, the Golden State Freeway toward Bakersfield. Most of the filming is on Route 14 and in the Angeles National Forest just north of Los Angeles.

A group of vicious claim-jumpers is killing the miners in a Western settlement. Their latest victim is Cromwell (Harry Harvey), who is shot to death at his mine just after his son Luke (Audie Murphy) leaves for town.
