The Loveless (originally titled Breakdown) is a 1981 American outlaw biker drama film written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow and Monty Montgomery, the feature film directorial debut of both directors. It is an independent film and stars Willem Dafoe and musician Robert Gordon, who also did the music for the film.

Summaries. Trouble ensues when a motorcycle gang stops in a small southern town while heading to the races at Daytona. It's circa 1959/1960 in the rural American south. A group of six bikers is heading to Daytona to watch the races, they having made plans to convene at a prearranged stop along Hwy. 17 so that they can ride down together.
The Loveless is most definitely a neo-biker movie, not a biker movie. Its plot, about a group of northern greasers pit-stopped in a small Georgia town on the way to Daytona, is a rehash of The Wild One (1953).
