  3. A BIG HAND FOR THE LITTLE LADY is a western, and a comedy. It is also one of the handful of good movies (THE CINCINATTI KID is another) dealing seriously with card playing. The resolution of this clever comedy is a joy, and I recommend catching it when you can.

  4. A Big Hand for the Little Lady: Directed by Fielder Cook. With Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward, Jason Robards, Paul Ford. Comedy western in which a traveler bets more money than he can afford in a poker game, and unusual events follow.

Fortunately, director Fielder Cook has a talented group of stars and character actors to help make it work, including Charles Bickford and Jason Robards as poker players and Burgess Meredith as the town doctor.

  7. Aug 5, 2019 · This pleasant but relatively thin western comedy (it was padded) about card hustlers is written by Sidney Carroll (“The Hustler”). Henry Fonda and Joanne Woodward head an all-star cast (including Jason Robards, Jr., Burgess Meredith and Charles Bickford). Set in 1896 in the Laredo territory.
