The Great is based on a stage play, also created and written by Bromilow's husband, Academy Award nominee Tony McNamara. In the original stage version, Bromilow auditioned for the role of once-lady-of-the court, now poor maid Marial. "I was so desperate to get it. Maybe that's why I didn't get it," said Bromilow.
