Biography. Letts was born as Billie Dean Gipson [1] in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Virginia M. (née Barnes), a secretary, and William C. Gipson. [2] She married Dennis Letts, a professor and actor, in 1958. [1] The couple had three children: Dana, Tracy (a playwright), and Shawn (a jazz musician/composer).
Billie did not always start out as a writer of fiction. Earlier in her career, she was a professor and taught at Southeastern OK State University. Later she was married to her husband. Sadly, Dennis Letts passed away in 2008. Billie Letts continues to be the mother of two grown children. She first became a published author herself in 1995.
