Blue Hawaii (1961) is quintessential Elvis: plenty of songs, plenty of girls, and a setting that accents both. This time, the scene is Oahu and Kauai and the girls are his sweetheart (Joan Blackman), an attractive school teacher (Nancy Walters) and her four teenage students.
First of all, Blue Hawaii is gorgeous to look at. The Hawaiian scenery includes sites like Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, Ala Moana Park and the now (sadly) extinct Coco Palms Resort in Kauai. Director of Photography Charles Lang captures the lushness and grandeur of all the locations.
