Sam is portrayed by actor Chord Overstreet. Unlike much of the original cast, Glee creator Ryan Murphy did not find Overstreet on Broadway. He landed the role after auditioning with Commodores' "Easy" and Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want to Be".
